There are 40 pictures of a young George Strait available. George Strait has been involved in the country music industry for over four decades. Surprisingly, he only developed an interest in country music during his time in high school.
The individual who later became an iconic figure was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas, as the child of Doris and John Strait. During his teenage years, he developed a strong interest in news radio and the farmer's report. This fascination stemmed from his family's ownership of a large ranch, where he actively contributed and desired to remain well-informed.
Strait began his music career during his time as a student at Pearsall High School. He was a member of a rock 'n roll garage band called the Stoics. Even when he went to college, he continued pursuing music by joining the country band Stoney Ridge. He discovered the opportunity to join the band after responding to a flyer they had put up on campus, as they were in search of a new vocalist.
After becoming the new lead singer, Strait took charge and decided to change the band's name to the Ace in the Hole Band. Under his leadership, the group began performing at various honky-tonks and bars in the southern and central regions of Texas.
In the year 1981, MCA Records approached Strait and he agreed to sign with them. He then released his very first single called "Unwound." This song achieved widespread popularity and became one of the top 10 songs in the country music genre during that period.
As Strait's popularity grew, he made the decision to venture into acting. In 1982, he landed a role in the film called "The Soldier". Following that, he has made appearances in a couple of other movies, with "Pure Country" being the most notable one. Additionally, he lent his voice to a character on the animated series called "King of the Hill".
This country heartthrob was unstoppable, and by the 1990s, he had become widely known and had earned the enduring title of King of Country Music.
Throughout his career, Strait has achieved a remarkable feat by securing over 60 chart-topping songs and selling a vast number of records across the globe.
