6 Chilling Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More: A Look at the Last Performances of Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been six memorable final concerts that left a lasting impact on audiences. One of these concerts was performed by the legendary Merle Haggard, while another was by the iconic Johnny Cash. Daryle Singletary, on the other hand, was unaware that his last concert would be his final one. However, this lack of knowledge made the song he selected to close the night even more haunting and eerie.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, an interesting narrative emerged suggesting that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully exiting the stage. However, this account turned out to be false. Contrary to popular belief, Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing otherwise was also absent.

In fact, the person being referred to as "that guy" who is an actor named W. Earl Brown, was not present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing his performance. He had only heard about it from others.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of Haggard's last performance that revealed a touching moment deserving of equal recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from his final concert, which can be seen in the video above (and in the pictures below).

This video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell. It is a collection of poignant moments.

Our preferred performance is the Singletary one. If you are acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you will understand the reference. However, if you are unfamiliar with it, we encourage you to continue watching.
