Chilling Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More: A Look at the Last Performances of Country Music Legends

  • by

There were six memorable and haunting final concerts by legends such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his last performance was approaching, while Daryle Singletary was unaware. However, the song that Singletary chose to conclude his concert added an extra eerie quality to the event.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, an interesting tale emerged, suggesting that Toby Keith played a significant role in ensuring Haggard's graceful exit from the spotlight. However, this account turned out to be false. Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing this was also absent.

In fact, the individual mentioned as actor W. Earl Brown did not attend the event where Keith assisted Haggard in completing his performance. He had only heard about it afterwards.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of what appears to be Haggard's last performance and found a touching moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six cherished memories from the final concert, which can be seen in the video above and in the pictures below.

Included in this poignant video are John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

Our preferred performance is the Singletary one. If you're acquainted with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you will understand the reference. However, if you're not familiar, continue watching to find out.
