Chilling Last Performances: Exploring the Final Concerts of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six haunting final concerts by legendary artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his last concert was approaching, while Daryle Singletary had no idea. However, the song he decided to close the night with adds an even more eerie feeling to his performance.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully during his last performance, ensuring his dignity remained intact. However, this story turned out to be false. Neither Keith nor the individual who deceived us into believing he was present were actually there for Haggard's final show.

In fact, the individual in question, actor W. Earl Brown, did not physically attend the event where Keith assisted Haggard in completing the task. He had only received information about it.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of what appeared to be Haggard's last performance and found a heartwarming moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in the pictures below).

Included in this poignant video are the final performance by John Denver, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' farewell performance made for television.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you've heard Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you'll understand the significance of where he left it. However, if you're not familiar with the song, stay tuned and you'll find out.
