"Earl Had to Die: The 20 Greatest Country Songs About Taking the Life of Your Partner"

In the realm of classic country music, murder ballads have always held a significant place. Although they may not be as common in today's country music scene, there remains a collection of exceptional songs that depict men killing their female romantic partners. However, it is rarer to find songs that explore the opposite scenario. Nevertheless, the country music genre also offers a substantial number of songs that tell tales of women who commit murder, and we have compiled a list to showcase these songs.

In order to narrow down the list, we set a few guidelines. We decided to include only one song per artist, which meant that even though Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have multiple murder-themed songs in their repertoire, we only chose one from each. While songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all excellent revenge anthems, they were edged out by even more popular songs in the final selection.

The topic was defined in such a way that it became even more specific. In order for a murder song to be included in this list, it had to involve at least one male victim. Unfortunately, Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine," which is considered one of the best modern murder songs in the genre, did not meet this criteria. Additionally, notable mentions go to Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also did not make it onto this list.

This collection showcases the most extraordinary and wicked compilation of country music songs that emphasize the act of killing someone. Take a look at the images below to discover our top choices for revenge-themed hits and lesser-known songs that revolve around the idea of murdering the male figure in one's life, or persuading someone else to do it on their behalf. Keep reading and don't forget to leave a comment if we overlooked your favorite song about getting rid of your man.
