Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but there is no romantic relationship between them. The two were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), leading to speculation that they could be the latest "it" couple spanning different music genres. However, a reliable source connected to one of the artists dismisses these rumors.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own videos taken by paparazzi, showing Smith and Lavigne spending time together. It appears that their hangout included a particular activity that perfectly aligns with Lavigne's image as a "Sk8er Boi" singer: they went skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith approaches her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's obvious that he is not as experienced as Lavigne. She effortlessly zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
A video from the Hollywood Curtain captures the moment when Smith and Lavigne exit Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if the two videos were shot on the same evening, but both Smith and Lavigne are seen wearing similar clothing, despite Lavigne having to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music collaborations.
It's not entirely unexpected for Lavigne to be mingling with the country music industry. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors event in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest song, "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot.
