Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but there is no romantic involvement between them. The two were seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), which sparked some speculation, but a reliable source who knows one of them has denied any romantic connection.
They are simply acquaintances with no romantic involvement.
Two different sources, The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ, both posted paparazzi videos showing Smith and Lavigne spending time together. The footage showed them engaging in an activity that is typical for the singer known for the song "Sk8er Boi" – skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne exiting the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. As Lavigne effortlessly zips past him on the sidewalk, Smith struggles to keep up, using the truck for support to maintain his balance.
Footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures Smith and Lavigne exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain whether both videos were recorded on the same evening, but it seems that Smith and Lavigne are dressed alike, with the exception of Lavigne having to take off her black hoodie before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.
Lavigne's involvement with the country music scene shouldn't come as a complete surprise. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to sing "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Additionally, Lavigne was included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors event in Nashville. She honored fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by performing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest song called "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial breakthrough hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached No. 1.
