Nate Smith was seen in the company of pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but it has been clarified that they are not in a romantic relationship. The pair was seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), which sparked speculation about their potential as a cross-genre power couple. However, a reliable source close to one of them has dismissed these rumors.
They are only acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released different videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together. It appears that during their hangout, they engaged in an activity that aligns perfectly with Lavigne's persona as the "Sk8er Boi" singer: skateboarding.
A video captured by TMZ depicts Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, carrying a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, dressed in his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne. As she effortlessly glides past him on the sidewalk, he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
The footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures Smith and Lavigne leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if the two videos were filmed on the same night, but both Smith and Lavigne are seen wearing similar outfits. However, it seems that Lavigne had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.
It's not completely surprising that Lavigne is interacting with the country music scene. She joined Miranda Lambert on stage during the 2023 CMA Fest to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by singing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest song called "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial breakthrough hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top position on the charts.
