Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but it seems like they are not romantically involved. The duo was seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), but a reliable source from one of their camps has denied any speculations.
They are merely acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released different videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together. The footage showed them engaging in an activity that is closely associated with Lavigne's image as a singer: skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith comes along wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's obvious that he is not as experienced as Lavigne – she effortlessly zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles behind her, using the truck for support.
Footage captured from the Hollywood Curtain reveals that the couple can be seen exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse located in Los Angeles. It remains uncertain whether the two videos were filmed during the same evening, although Smith and Lavigne seem to be dressed in similar attire. However, it should be noted that Lavigne would have needed to take off her black hooded sweatshirt prior to departing from the dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.
It's not surprising that Lavigne is involved in the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid tribute to Shania Twain, a fellow Canadian, by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his latest single, "World on Fire." This song comes after his initial breakthrough with the No. 1 hit, "Whiskey on You."
