Nate Smith was seen hanging out with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but there is no romantic involvement between them. Speculation arose after the two were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), but a reliable source close to one of them has denied any romantic connection.
They have a platonic relationship.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own paparazzi videos of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, which appears to have involved a typical activity for Lavigne: skateboarding, which aligns with her image as the "Sk8er Boi" singer.
In a video obtained by TMZ, Avril Lavigne can be seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot. She is holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as experienced as Lavigne. As she effortlessly glides past him on the sidewalk, he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
Footage captured from the Hollywood Curtain features the couple exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse located in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if the two videos were filmed on the same evening, but it seems that Smith and Lavigne are dressed in similar attire—although Lavigne would have had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before departing from their dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music projects.
It is not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be interacting with the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest single called "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
