Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but it seems that they are not romantically involved. On Monday night (Jan. 29), the two were spotted together in Los Angeles. However, a reliable source close to one of them has denied any romantic connection between them.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ independently released paparazzi videos of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, which appears to have involved an activity that perfectly aligns with the "Sk8er Boi" singer's image: skateboarding.
In a video captured by TMZ, Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot. She is holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, dressed in his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne – she effortlessly zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
Footage captured from the Hollywood Curtain captures Smith and Lavigne stepping out of Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if the two videos were recorded during the same evening, but it seems that Smith and Lavigne are dressed in similar attire. However, Lavigne would have needed to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before departing from the dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about potential new music collaborations.
It's not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be interacting with the country music community. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the list of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors event in Nashville. She honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Regarding Smith, he is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest song called "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
