Nate Smith was seen hanging out with popular pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles on Monday night. However, despite speculation, a reliable source close to one of them has denied any romantic involvement between the two.
They are only acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released different videos taken by paparazzi showing Smith and Lavigne spending time together. The footage suggests that they engaged in an activity that is typical for Lavigne, who is known for her song "Sk8er Boi" – they went skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting off the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's obvious that he is not as skilled as Lavigne – she swiftly passes him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck to steady himself.
A video captured from the Hollywood Curtain reveals that the duo, Smith and Lavigne, were spotted leaving Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if both videos were recorded on the same night, but it seems that Smith and Lavigne are wearing similar clothing in both videos. However, it should be noted that Lavigne would have needed to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the restaurant.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were seen having dinner together in a friendly manner, possibly to talk about upcoming music collaborations.
It's not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be mingling with the country music scene. She made a surprise appearance with Miranda Lambert at the 2023 CMA Fest, where they performed "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi" together. Lavigne was also among the performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid tribute to fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his most recent single, titled "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top spot on the charts.
