Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne, but it's important to note that they are not in a romantic relationship. The two were seen together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), which led to speculation about their potential as a cross-genre "it" couple. However, a reliable source close to one of the artists has denied these rumors.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ have released different videos taken by paparazzi showing Smith and Lavigne hanging out together. The footage suggests that they engaged in an activity that is very fitting for Lavigne, who is known for her song "Sk8er Boi" – they went skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne exiting the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, dressed in his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it is evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne – she zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
Footage from the Hollywood Curtain captures the couple coming out of Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It's uncertain if the two videos were filmed on the same evening, but it seems that Smith and Lavigne are dressed in similar attire. However, Lavigne would have had to take off her black hoodie before departing from the dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were having a meal together as friends, possibly to talk about their new music projects.
It's not surprising that Lavigne is getting involved with the country music scene. In 2023, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage at the CMA Fest to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid homage to fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Regarding Smith, he is currently making significant progress on the country radio charts with his most recent track titled "World on Fire." This song comes after the success of his initial chart-topping hit, "Whiskey on You."
