Country music power couple Reba McEntire and Rex Linn recently participated in a chili cookoff, but unfortunately, McEntire didn't fare too well in the competition, as judged by Linn. Despite their adorable relationship, it seems they don't go easy on each other when it comes to cooking contests.
McEntire recently took part in a culinary competition called the Hillbilly Chili Cookoff. One of the judges at the event was Linn, who happened to have a personal connection with McEntire. However, this personal relationship did not influence or benefit McEntire in any way during the judging process.
To everyone's surprise, McEntire ended up with the lowest position. As a consolation, she received a unique trophy – a chili pepper being symbolically flushed down a toilet.
Always one to have a good attitude, McEntire posted a video on her social media accounts showcasing her not-so-successful cookoff experience. She even included a clip of her gracefully accepting the last place position.
In the video provided below, you can witness the entire sequence of events and also find some interesting additional details. Notably, country singer Terri Clark was present at the event and secured the second position.
In a recent online appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and confessed that she has a clear understanding of what went awry.
She confesses that she unintentionally forgot to include any spices in the dish. However, she proudly mentions that she added chili powder and hatch green chilis to compensate for the missing spices. She was confident that these additions would enhance the flavor of the dish, especially since it was a recipe from Texas. She was filled with excitement about the outcome.
Despite being in a romantic relationship with Linn, it did not prevent her from ending up in last place. However, McEntire believes that her relationship status possibly lessened the impact when the judges announced the news.
"So, Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly shared the news. He expressed his apologies and I asked him if he would reveal the winner. He replied by saying that it was not me."
McEntire proceeds to explain how he was given a trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper placed inside a toilet. Consequently, he metaphorically describes his own achievement as "taking a dump".
Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair have been acquainted for a long time, having initially met in 1991 during the filming of the movie The Gambler Returns, where they didn't experience any romantic chemistry. However, they reconnected and developed a romantic relationship in 2020. In the interim, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, whom she shares her son Shelby with.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed her curiosity about why they didn't form a connection earlier. In response, Rex mentioned that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as someone who is full of fun and energy, while she herself has become more relaxed. She believes that they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire is set to go to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is currently developing a new sitcom that will reunite her with some of the crew members from her popular TV show, Reba.
