In creating this list, we eliminated certain contenders based on specific criteria. Our main focus was to include only one song per artist, which resulted in Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, both country stars known for their murder songs, receiving just one slot each. Only murders with male victims were considered, which meant that even though Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" is a great modern murder song, it didn't qualify. Other notable mentions, such as Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," also didn't meet the criteria for this list.
