The Chilling Farewells: Reflecting on the Final Concerts of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six memorable final concerts by various artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was not. However, this lack of awareness only adds to the haunting nature of the song he decided to conclude his performance with.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a heartwarming tale circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully exiting the stage. However, this narrative turned out to be false. Toby Keith was not present during the Hag's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing otherwise was also absent.

In fact, the individual mentioned, actor W. Earl Brown, was not present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing the task. He had only heard about it from others.

Taste of Country uncovered a review of what appears to be Haggard's last performance and found a poignant moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert, which are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

This video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell. It is a collection of these bittersweet moments.

Our preferred performance is the one by Singletary. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, then you know the point where Singletary left his mark. If you are not familiar with it, continue watching.
