The Chilling Final Concerts of Country Music Legends: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six unforgettable final concerts by iconic artists such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware that his last concert would be his farewell performance. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was unaware that his concert would be his final one, which adds an eerie quality to the song he selected to conclude the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a heartwarming tale circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in gracefully retiring from the stage. However, this account turned out to be false. Toby Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and neither was the individual who deceived us into believing the story.

In reality, the individual mentioned, W. Earl Brown, did not attend the performance where Keith genuinely assisted Haggard in completing the show. He simply learned about it from others.

Taste of Country found a review of Haggard's last concert, which revealed a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from the final concert, which can be seen in the video above (and in the pictures below).

Included in this poignant video are the last performance of John Denver, the final song of Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

Our preferred performance is the Singletary rendition. If you are familiar with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you'll know exactly where he took it. However, if you are not familiar, I would encourage you to continue watching.
