Zacharias stated to CBS News that he firmly decided not to release his grip on the car and held onto the windshield wipers. Without realizing it, they started driving down the street and accelerating, causing Zacharias to experience a sudden feeling of extreme fear for his life.
There is a widely circulated video capturing the incident, which depicts Zacharias gripping onto the car's hood.
In the situation described, the narrator initially believed that when the person pulled on the leash, they simply wanted their dog to investigate something. Consequently, the narrator released the leash. However, upon looking up, they noticed a woman taking hold of their dog and walking away with them. In response, the narrator positioned themselves in front of the car and informed the woman that she could not leave as she had their dog. The individuals in the car proceeded to drive towards the narrator, intentionally colliding with them until they fell onto the car's hood. Despite this, the narrator remained steadfast and declared that they would not leave until their dog was returned. Eventually, the individuals in the car began to drive away while the narrator desperately clung to the vehicle. This account was shared by Zacharias in a TikTok video as she recounted the distressing incident to NBC News.
Regrettably, Zacharias' brave attempts to save her beloved dog were unsuccessful. She managed to hold on for a short distance before the car suddenly changed direction, causing her to be thrown off. As a result, she sustained minor injuries such as cuts and bruises. Unfortunately, Onyx, the dog, is still nowhere to be found.
"No matter what I'm doing, I feel a sense of sadness because I'm not doing it with Onyx, or because he's not able to experience it. For example, when I go grocery shopping, I can't help but think that I'm not buying anything for him. It's surprising how quickly time has passed. It feels like this situation just occurred, and yet it's already been 10 days," she expressed.
CBS reported that the Los Angeles Police Department is currently engaged in a thorough investigation of the crime, which involves a meticulous examination of security footage.
