6 Chilling Final Concerts: A Look Back at Country Music Legends Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More

  • by

There were six final concerts that were particularly chilling, featuring artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, adding to the haunting nature of the song he performed to close the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in exiting the stage with grace. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last performance, and the individual who spread the misinformation was also not in attendance.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the concert where Keith actually assisted Haggard in finishing his performance. He had only heard about it from others.

Taste of Country found a review of what is believed to be Merle Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell, creating a bittersweet experience for viewers.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize where he got his inspiration from. If you're unfamiliar with the song, make sure to keep watching to see the connection.
