6 Chilling Final Concerts: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More: A Look at the Haunting Last Performances of Country Music Legends

  • by

There have been six unforgettable last concerts by legendary performers such as Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware that his concert would be his last, while Daryle Singletary was unaware of this fact. However, the song he decided to conclude his performance with added an even more haunting atmosphere to the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a touching story circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in gracefully departing from the stage. However, this story was found to be false. Keith was not present during Haggard's last performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing otherwise was also absent.

In reality, the person mentioned, actor W. Earl Brown, was not present at the event where Keith actually assisted Haggard in completing the task. He had merely heard about it.

Taste of Country found a review of Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of the six memories from the final concert that is shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

This video includes the last performance of John Denver, the final song of Johnny Cash, and the made-for-TV farewell performance of Waylon Jennings. It is a bittersweet collection of these moments.

The Singletary performance is the one we enjoy the most. If you are already familiar with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you know exactly how remarkable it was. However, if you are not familiar with it yet, I suggest you continue watching because it is truly worth it.
