6 Chilling Final Concerts: Stories from Country Music Legends’ Last Performances

  • by

Six haunting last performances: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware his concert was his last. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was unaware, adding a haunting element to the song he chose to close the night.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, there was a popular story circulating about Toby Keith assisting him in ending his career gracefully. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last performance, and the individual who spread the misinformation was also absent.

In reality, actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith helped Haggard finish. He only learned about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what would end up being Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserved just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert that are shared in the video above and in the pictures below.

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell, creating a bittersweet compilation.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize where he took inspiration from. If you're not familiar with it, make sure to watch and listen.
