6 Haunting Final Performances by Country Music Legends: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

Here are six memorable last concerts by artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his concert was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not, adding to the haunting nature of the song he performed to close the show.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a story circulated claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage with dignity during his last performance. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's final show, despite the misconception that was created.

In reality, W. Earl Brown, the actor, was not present at the concert where Keith assisted Haggard. He had only heard about it from someone else.

Taste of Country found a review of what may have been Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from his final concert shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

The last live performance of John Denver, the final song by Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings' television special are all featured in this poignant video.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, then you'll understand the emotion he put into it. If you're not familiar with the song, make sure to continue watching.
