6 Haunting Final Performances: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + More

  • by

Here are 6 memorable last concerts from legendary artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and Daryle Singletary. George Jones was aware that his performance was his last, while Daryle Singletary was not. Despite not knowing, Singletary's final song choice added to the haunting feel of the night.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a false story circulated claiming that Toby Keith assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully during his last performance. However, this story was debunked as Keith was not present at Haggard's final show, and the individual who spread the misinformation was also absent.

In reality, actor W. Earl Brown wasn't present at the event where Keith assisted Haggard. He only found out about it afterwards.

Taste of Country found a review of what appears to be Haggard's last concert and found a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six memories from his final concert, which can be seen in the video above and in the pictures below.

The video includes John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell, adding a bittersweet touch to the collection.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance the most. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize where he took inspiration from. If you're not familiar with the song, make sure to continue watching.
