Deadly Ditties: The Top 20 Country Songs About Killing Your Man

  • by

Country music has a long history of murder ballads, with songs about men killing their female partners being a common theme. While these types of songs are not as popular as they once were, there are still many great songs on the topic. Additionally, there are also songs about women killing their male partners in country music, although they are not as common. This genre has a variety of songs on the subject.

We eliminated certain choices from this list based on specific criteria. Our focus was on including only one song from each artist, so even though Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert have multiple songs about murder in their discographies, only one of their songs made the list. Hits like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all excellent revenge songs, but they were ultimately overshadowed by even more popular songs that took their place on the final list.

The criteria for the theme of the list was quite specific, requiring that only murders with a male victim would be considered. This meant that songs like Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" did not qualify, despite being highly regarded in the genre. Other songs like Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love" were also notable mentions, but they ultimately did not make the final list due to the same criteria.

The remaining songs in this collection are truly remarkable and sinister, showcasing the best songs in country music that revolve around killing a man. Take a look through the images below to view our selections for the top revenge songs and lesser-known tracks about murder – particularly, murdering a significant other or persuading someone else to do it for you. Keep reading and feel free to share in the comments if we overlooked your favorite song about getting rid of your man.
