Songs about killing your romantic partner are a common theme in classic country music. Although they are not as popular now as they used to be, there are still many great songs about men killing their female partners. Less common are songs about women killing their partners, but there are still plenty of them in country music.
We excluded certain artists from this list based on specific criteria. We chose to feature only one song from each artist, so popular country singers Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert, known for their many murder-themed songs, were limited to just one selection each. While songs like "Before He Cheats," "Church Bells," "White Liar," and "Kerosene" are all strong revenge anthems, they were ultimately overshadowed by larger, more well-known songs in the final selection.
The theme of the list focused on murders with male victims only. Songs like Ashley McBryde's "Martha Divine" couldn't make the cut despite being well-regarded in the genre. Other notable mentions include Willie Nelson's "Red Headed Stranger" and The SteelDrivers' "If It Hadn't Been for Love," but they also didn't make it onto the list due to the specific criteria.
The remaining selection is an impressive and sinister collection of the top songs in country music that discuss killing someone. Take a look at our choices for the best revenge songs and lesser-known tracks on the topic of murder, particularly targeting a man in a romantic relationship (or getting someone else to do it for you). Keep reading and don't forget to share in the comments if we overlooked your preferred song about eliminating your significant other.
