Final Farewells: A Look Back at 6 Chilling Last Concerts from Country Music Legends

  • by

Here are six memorable last concerts from artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware that his performance was his last. On the other hand, Daryle Singletary was not aware, which added a haunting quality to the song he performed as his final encore.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, there was a widely circulated story claiming that Toby Keith had assisted him in exiting the stage gracefully. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last performance, and the person who spread the misinformation was also not in attendance.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the event where Keith truly assisted Haggard. He only found out about it later.

Taste of Country found a review of what might have been Haggard's last concert and uncovered a touching moment that deserves as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six final concert memories that are shared in the video above and in pictures below.

The last performance by John Denver, the final song by Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell are all featured in this emotional video.

We really enjoy the Singletary performance the most. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll understand the emotion behind it. If you're not familiar with the song, be sure to continue watching.
