Final Farewells: Reflecting on the Chilling Last Concerts of Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and More

  • by

There have been six haunting last performances by notable artists like Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary, and others. George Jones was aware that it would be his final concert, while Daryle Singletary was not, which adds an extra eerie quality to the song he decided to conclude the evening with.

Following the passing of Merle Haggard, a heartwarming tale circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in gracefully exiting the stage for the last time. However, this account turned out to be false. Contrary to popular belief, Keith was not present during the Hag's final performance, and the individual who deceived us into believing otherwise was also absent.

In fact, the individual mentioned, actor W. Earl Brown, did not attend the performance where Keith genuinely assisted Haggard in his completion. Brown simply learned about it from others.

Associated: 14 country artists who warrant greater admiration.

Taste of Country found a review of Haggard's last concert and found a special moment that deserves just as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This is one of six memories from the final concert that are shared in the video above (and in pictures below).

This video features John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell. It is a mix of emotions, with a touch of sadness.

We absolutely love the Singletary performance. If you are familiar with Johnny Paycheck's song "Old Violin," you already know the remarkable place he took it to. However, if you are not familiar with the song, we highly recommend that you continue watching as it is truly worth it.
