Nate Smith and Avril Lavigne: Just Friends or Potential Musical Collaboration?

  • by

Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles on Monday night. However, there is no romantic relationship between them, as confirmed by a source close to one of the individuals involved.

They are merely acquaintances.

Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ independently shared videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, which appears to have involved an activity that perfectly aligns with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" singer: skateboarding.

In a video captured by TMZ, Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith appears alongside her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne – she quickly glides past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.

A video from the Hollywood Curtain captures the moment when Smith and Lavigne come out of Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is not completely evident if the two videos were recorded on the same evening, but both Smith and Lavigne are seen wearing similar clothing. However, Lavigne would have had to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the dinner.

According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were seen having dinner together, but it was described as a friendly outing and possibly a meeting to talk about new music collaborations.

Lavigne's involvement in the country music community isn't entirely unexpected. She joined Miranda Lambert on stage at the 2023 CMA Fest to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Additionally, Lavigne was included in the list of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville. During the event, she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing a version of Twain's song, "No One Needs to Know."

Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest single called "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial success with his first No. 1 hit titled "Whiskey on You."
