Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock artist Avril Lavigne, but there is no romantic relationship between them. The two were spotted together in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29), but a reliable source connected to one of them has denied any dating rumors.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together. It appears that during their hangout, they engaged in an activity that aligns perfectly with Lavigne's image as the singer of "Sk8er Boi" – they went skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck in a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith appears, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's evident that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. While he struggles to maintain his balance by leaning on the side of the truck, Lavigne zooms past him on the sidewalk.
Footage captured at the Hollywood Curtain reveals Smith and Lavigne exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse located in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if the two videos were filmed during the same evening, but both Smith and Lavigne can be seen sporting comparable attire. However, it should be noted that Lavigne would have had to remove her black hooded sweatshirt before departing from the dinner venue.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were having a meal together as friends, possibly to talk about new music collaborations.
It's not completely unexpected for Lavigne to be mingling with the country music industry. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also invited to perform at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville, where she paid tribute to fellow Canadian artist Shania Twain by singing Twain's "No One Needs to Know."
Regarding Smith, he is currently gaining popularity on country radio with his newest song, "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial success with his first chart-topping hit, "Whiskey on You."
