Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles, but there is no romantic relationship between them, according to a reliable source close to one of them.
They are merely acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own videos captured by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's get-together, which appears to have involved a particular activity that perfectly aligns with the image of the "Sk8er Boi" artist: skateboarding.
A video from TMZ captures Lavigne getting out of the back of a black pickup truck at a gas station parking lot with a skateboard in hand. Shortly after, Smith also joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He has a skateboard as well, but it's obvious that he is not as skilled as Lavigne when it comes to skateboarding. She effortlessly zooms past him on the sidewalk while he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck for support.
Footage captured from the Hollywood Curtain captures the couple exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is unclear if the two videos were filmed on the same occasion, but both Smith and Lavigne are seen wearing comparable outfits. However, Lavigne would have needed to take off her black hooded sweatshirt before leaving the dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having dinner together as friends, possibly to talk about new music collaborations.
Lavigne's presence in the country music community is not completely unexpected. During the 2023 CMA Fest, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Additionally, Lavigne was included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville. During the event, she honored her fellow Canadian, Shania Twain, by singing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest single, "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial breakthrough hit, "Whiskey on You," which reached the top position on the charts.
