Nate Smith was seen spending time with pop-rock singer Avril Lavigne in Los Angeles on Monday night (Jan. 29). However, there is no romantic relationship between them, according to a source close to one of them, dismissing any rumors.
They are simply acquaintances.
Both The Hollywood Curtain and TMZ released their own videos taken by paparazzi of Smith and Lavigne's hangout. During their hangout, they were seen engaging in an activity that is known to be a signature interest of Lavigne, who is famously associated with the song "Sk8er Boi" – they went skateboarding.
In a video captured by TMZ, Avril Lavigne is seen getting out of the back of a black pickup truck in a gas station parking lot, holding a skateboard. Shortly after, Smith joins her, wearing his typical leather jacket and black baseball cap. He also has a skateboard, but it's obvious that he is not as experienced as Lavigne. As she quickly glides past him along the sidewalk, he struggles to keep up, using the side of the truck to support himself.
Footage captured by the Hollywood Curtain displays the duo exiting Catch Steak, a steakhouse in Los Angeles. It is uncertain if both videos were recorded during the same evening, but Smith and Lavigne seem to be dressed in similar attire. However, it is worth noting that Lavigne would have needed to take off her black hooded sweatshirt prior to departing from the dinner.
According to TMZ, Smith and Lavigne were just having a meal together as friends, possibly to talk about their new music collaborations.
It's not completely surprising that Lavigne is involved with the country music scene. In 2023, she joined Miranda Lambert on stage during the CMA Fest to perform "Kerosene" and "Sk8er Boi." Lavigne was also included in the lineup of performers at the 2022 ACM Honors ceremony in Nashville. During the event, she honored fellow Canadian Shania Twain by singing Twain's song "No One Needs to Know."
Smith is currently experiencing success on the country radio charts with his newest single, titled "World on Fire." This track comes after his initial breakthrough and first-ever number one hit, "Whiskey on You."
