Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they didn't go easy on each other in the contest.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, it did not influence the judging process in McEntire's favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place in the competition. As a result, she received a humorous award in the form of a trophy depicting a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire demonstrated good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her cookoff attempt, even showing herself graciously accepting her last place finish.
The complete video below depicts the entire event, with some additional entertaining details included. One noteworthy detail is that country star Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent online appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
"I must have forgotten to add the spices," she confesses. "I added chili powder and hatch green chilis thinking it would be enough to flavor the dish. I was following a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to it."
Despite being Linn's girlfriend, it didn't prevent her from ending up in last place. However, McEntire believes that her relationship with Linn may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news to her.
During the competition, Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly informed me that I did not win. He expressed his regret and I asked him directly if he would reveal the winner. Rex confirmed that I was not the winner.
"Then he gave me the prize, which turned out to be a chili pepper floating in the toilet. So I said goodbye to mine," McEntire added.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the making of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't begin until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they didn't start a relationship sooner. Rex pointed out that McEntire had been married before, which may have been a factor. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she feels she has become more mellow. Despite their differences, she believes they have come together at the perfect time.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will bring her back together with some of the individuals who were part of her popular TV show, Reba.
