Country music star Reba McEntire did not fare well in a recent chili cookoff competition, with actor Rex Linn serving as one of the judges. Despite being a couple, McEntire and Linn did not go easy on each other in the contest.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire, always sporting a good attitude, posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful participation in a cooking competition. The video included a moment where she gracefully accepted coming in last place.
The complete video below captures the entire event, and also includes some interesting details. For instance, country singer Terri Clark participated and came in second place.
During a recent appearance on CBS Mornings via video call, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a strong understanding of what caused the failure.
She realized that she forgot to add the spices to the recipe, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She thought that this addition would give the dish the flavor she was looking for, especially since it was a Texas recipe that she was excited to try.
Despite being in a relationship with Linn, it did not improve her ranking in the competition. However, McEntire believes that her girlfriend status may have slightly lessened the impact of the judges' decision when they announced the news.
Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly informed me of the news. He expressed his apologies and revealed that I was not the winner of the competition.
"He gave me the trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I pretended to use the toilet," McEntire explains.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The two have been acquainted for a long time, having initially met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns alongside Kenny Rogers. However, their romantic relationship did not begin until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, her husband of many years, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that McEntire had been previously married, which may have been a factor. McEntire describes Rex as lively and energetic, while she has become more relaxed. She believes that they have crossed paths at the perfect moment.
Following that, McEntire is going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is also working on a new comedy series, where she will be collaborating with some of the people who were part of her popular show, Reba.
