Reba McEntire and Rex Linn, a couple in the country music industry, recently competed in a chili cookoff where Reba placed last. Despite their cute relationship, they take cook-off contests seriously and do not go easy on each other.
McEntire recently competed in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.
Surprisingly, McEntire ended up in last place. As a consolation prize, she received a trophy in the form of a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always willing to have fun, McEntire posted a video on social media of her experience at a cookoff where she didn't win, showing her gracefully accepting the fact that she came in last place.
The complete video below captures the entire event, with some additional interesting details included. Country singer Terri Clark also participated and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add any spices to the dish she was making. However, she tried to make up for it by adding a lot of chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would still turn out well. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to the end result.
Despite being in a relationship with Linn, McEntire acknowledges that it did not prevent her from finishing in last place. However, she believes that being in a relationship may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news.
During the competition, one of the judges, named Rex, quietly informed me that I did not win. He expressed his apologies and when I asked him who the winner was, he confirmed that it was not me.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in a toilet. So I ended up making a joke about it," McEntire explains.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire talked about her strong bond with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the making of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship only blossomed when they reconnected in 2020. Previously, McEntire was married to her longtime spouse Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they hadn't gotten together sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could have been because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy show that will involve reuniting with some of the people who worked on her popular TV show, Reba.
