Country music star Reba McEntire came in last place at a chili cookoff judged by her partner, Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, they didn't go easy on each other in the competition.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge. Despite their personal relationship, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always willing to have fun, McEntire posted a video on her social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition, showing her gracefully accepting the fact that she came in last place.
The complete video below depicts the entire event, including some additional enjoyable details. For instance, country singer Terri Clark was present and ended up taking the second spot in the competition.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and shared that she has a good understanding of where things went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add all the spices to the dish she was making. Despite forgetting the spices, she added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would still turn out well because it was a recipe from Texas that she was following. She was really excited about the dish.
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being her girlfriend may have softened the blow when the judges announced the results.
During the competition, one of the judges, Rex, told me in a quiet voice that I did not win. He expressed his apologies and when I asked him who the winner was, he confirmed that it was not me.
"He gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the shape of a toilet. So, I made a joke about it," McEntire laughed as she shared the story.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her strong connection with Linn and what makes their relationship successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers. Although there were no romantic feelings initially, their relationship blossomed when they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation, McEntire mentioned to Rex that she wondered why they didn't get together sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason may have been because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as being fun and energetic, while she has become more laid-back. She believes they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following her current engagements, McEntire will be performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Additionally, she is working on a new sitcom project that will involve collaborating with some of the individuals who were part of her popular TV show, Reba.
