Country music star Reba McEntire competed in a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn and ended up in last place. Despite being a cute couple, Reba and Rex didn't go easy on each other during the competition.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn was one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually finished in last place. She received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always a gracious participant, McEntire posted a video on social media of her failed cookoff experience, which featured a moment of her gracefully acknowledging her last place finish.
The complete video below captures the entire event, along with some additional interesting details. Country artist Terri Clark also participated in the competition and came in second place.
In a recent virtual appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She forgot to add spices to the dish, but she added chili powder and hatch green chilis thinking it would still turn out great. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really excited about it.
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't change her last place ranking, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news.
"Rex, who was serving as a judge, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his sympathy and I asked him if he was going to announce the winner. He replied that unfortunately, it was not me."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I got a laugh out of it," McEntire added.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her relationship with Linn and what makes it successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic connection didn't happen until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while noting that she has become more mellow over time. She believes they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in both their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will involve collaborating with some of the people who previously worked on her popular show, Reba.
