Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they didn't show each other any favoritism in the competition.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn was a judge, but their personal connection did not influence the judging.
McEntire actually finished in last place. She was awarded a humorous trophy as a prize, which depicted a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
As always a good sport, McEntire posted a video on social media of her unsuccessful cookoff experience, showing her gracefully accepting the fact that she came in last place.
The video below captures the entire event and also features some additional interesting details. Country singer Terri Clark participated in the competition and ended up in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
"I accidentally forgot to add any spices," she confessed. "But I added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would be enough. I followed a recipe from Texas and was really looking forward to it."
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't improve her ranking, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have helped soften the disappointment when the judges announced her last place finish.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would disclose the winner, he simply said that it was not me."
"He gave me the trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet bowl. And then I jokingly pretended that my chili pepper also needed to use the restroom," McEntire adds.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't begin until they reconnected in 2020. During the time in between, McEntire was married to her former husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed her wonder about why they didn't get together sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new TV show with some of the individuals who were part of her popular series, Reba.
