Reba McEntire comes in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't go easy on each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
Surprisingly, McEntire finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous award: a trophy depicting a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always up for a challenge, McEntire posted a video on her social media accounts showing her participation in a cooking competition that did not end in her favor. The video also captured her gracefully acknowledging her position in last place.
The complete video below depicts the entire event, with additional interesting details included. Country singer Terri Clark also participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She forgot to add spices to the dish, but instead added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would be enough to give it flavor. The recipe was from Texas and she was really excited about cooking it.
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't help her avoid finishing in last place, McEntire believes that being his girlfriend may have lessened the impact of the news when the judges announced the results.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would tell me the winner, he responded by saying that it was not me."
McEntire explained that he was given a trophy that resembled a chili pepper in a toilet, and then he jokingly said that his trophy also "took a dump."
Putting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The pair has been acquaintances for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the making of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't begin until they reconnected in 2020. During the intervening years, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed curiosity about why they didn't connect sooner. Rex pointed out that McEntire had been married previously, which may have been a factor. McEntire described Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more relaxed over time. She believes they crossed paths at the perfect moment in both of their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will bring her back together with some of the crew members from her popular show, Reba.
