Reba McEntire comes in last place in a chili cookoff judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't show any mercy to each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
Interestingly, McEntire ended up in the last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always willing to have fun and take things in stride, McEntire posted a video on her social media accounts showing her participation in a cooking competition where she ended up in last place, but handled it with grace.
The complete video below depicts the unfolding events and also includes some interesting details, such as the presence of country singer Terri Clark who came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her chili cookoff mishap and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
"I forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "I thought adding chili powder and hatch green chilis would be enough to give it flavor. I was following a recipe from Texas and was really enthusiastic about it."
Even though Linn's girlfriend status did not prevent her from coming in last place, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have softened the disappointment when the judges announced the results.
Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly told me the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked if he would reveal the winner, he replied that it was not me.
"Then he gave me the trophy, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. That's when I realized it was my turn to make a joke," McEntire explains.
In addition to making jokes, McEntire discussed her connection with Linn and how their relationship is successful. They have been acquainted for a long time, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers. Although they did not feel a romantic spark at first, they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they didn't begin their relationship sooner. Rex mentioned that one reason could have been because McEntire was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as lively and full of energy, while she feels she has become more tranquil. Their personalities seem to complement each other well at this point in their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new comedy series that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular TV show, Reba.
