Country music star Reba McEntire did not win a chili cookoff, with actor Rex Linn serving as one of the judges. Despite being a cute couple, they did not go easy on each other during the competition.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always a gracious participant, McEntire posted a video on her social media showcasing her experience in a cooking competition where she didn't win, and even included a moment where she humbly accepted coming in last place.
The complete video below reveals the entire sequence of events, along with some additional enjoyable details. One interesting fact is that country singer Terri Clark participated in the event and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Reba McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and shared that she has a good understanding of what caused it to go wrong.
"I forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "But I added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would give it the right flavor. It was a recipe from Texas that I was really looking forward to trying."
Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being in a relationship may have softened the impact of the judges' decision when they announced the news.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his apologies and when I asked who won, he simply replied that it was not me."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I ended up flushing mine down the toilet," McEntire explains.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The two have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 on the set of the Kenny Rogers film The Gambler Returns. However, it wasn't until they reconnected in 2020 that romantic feelings started to develop. During this time, McEntire was still married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered aloud why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as lively and full of energy, while she has become more relaxed over time. She believes that they have come together at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new sitcom that will bring her back together with some of the people who were involved in her popular TV show, Reba.
