Country music star Reba McEntire did not fare well in a recent chili cookoff, where she was judged by actor Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, Reba and Rex did not go easy on each other during the competition.
McEntire recently attended a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn was one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually finished in last place. She ended up receiving a humorous trophy as a reward: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always willing to have fun, McEntire posted a video on social media of her not-so-successful cooking competition experience, even showing her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The complete video below demonstrates the entire event, with some additional interesting details included. For instance, country singer Terri Clark participated and ended up in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience in a chili cookoff and shared that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized she forgot to add any spices to the dish she was making. However, she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would still turn out well. She was following a recipe from Texas and was really enthusiastic about how it would turn out.
Even though Linn's relationship status didn't help her avoid coming in last place, McEntire believes that being her girlfriend may have softened the blow when the judges announced the results.
Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly informed me that I did not win. He apologized and I asked him if he would reveal the winner to me. Rex replied that it was not me who won the competition.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in a toilet. So I made a joke about it," McEntire explained.
Setting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and what makes their relationship successful. They have been acquaintances for a long time – meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns starring Kenny Rogers – but did not develop romantic feelings until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her longtime spouse Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, Reba McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex mentioned that one reason could be that she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as lively and full of energy, while she has become more relaxed. She believes that they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new television show that will bring her back together with some of the people who helped create her popular series, Reba.
