Reba McEntire Takes Last Place in Chili Cookoff Judged by Rex Linn: A Spicy Love Story

  • by

Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, Reba and Rex didn't go easy on each other in the competition.

McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.

McEntire actually ended up in last place. As a result, she was awarded a humorous trophy: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.

Always the gracious participant, McEntire posted a video on her social media showing her unsuccessful attempt at a cookoff, which included a moment of her gracefully accepting the last place position.

The entire video below captures the entire event, showcasing some additional entertaining details as well. One interesting highlight was the presence of country star Terri Clark, who ended up securing second place in the competition.

In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her failed chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.

She realized that she forgot to add spices to the dish she was making, but she tried to make up for it by adding chili powder and hatch green chilis. She was following a Texas recipe and was really excited about how it would turn out.

Even though Linn's girlfriend status didn't improve her ranking, McEntire believes that being in a relationship likely softened the impact of the judges' decision when they announced the news.

"Rex, who was a judge, approached me and quietly informed me. He expressed his regret and told me that I did not win.

"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So I made mine do the same thing," McEntire added.

Putting humor aside, McEntire discussed her bond with Linn and the reasons behind its success. They have been acquainted for a long time, having first met in 1991 during the filming of a Kenny Rogers movie. However, their romantic feelings for each other did not develop until they reconnected in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her former husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.

During a conversation with Rex, McEntire pondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason might have been because McEntire was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she admits to having mellowed out over time. She believes that they have met each other at the perfect moment, as they both have changed and grown in complementary ways.

Following that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. She is also working on a new comedy series that will involve some of the same people who were involved in her popular TV show, Reba.
