Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, they don't go easy on each other in cooking competitions.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge. Despite their personal relationship, it did not influence the judging process in her favor.
McEntire actually ended up in last place. As a consolation prize, she received a trophy in the shape of a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
Always a good sport, McEntire posted a video on her social media showing her unsuccessful cookoff experience, where she gracefully accepted finishing in last place.
The entire video below demonstrates what happened, along with some additional interesting details: Country singer Terri Clark participated and came in second place.
In a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Reba McEntire talked about her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She realized that she forgot to add the spices to the dish she was making, but she added chili powder and hatch green chilis instead. She thought that this would make the dish taste great, especially since it was a recipe from Texas. She was really enthusiastic about it.
Despite being Linn's girlfriend, it did not prevent her from ending up in last place. McEntire believes that her relationship status may have helped soften the blow when the judges announced the news.
Rex, a judge, told me quietly that I didn't win and apologized. When I asked him who did win, he confirmed it wasn't me.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in the toilet. So I jokingly said mine was a dump," McEntire added.
Setting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The two have been acquaintances for a long time – they first met in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't begin until they reconnected in 2020. Prior to this, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they didn't start a relationship sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could be because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic while she has become more relaxed. She believes they have come together at the perfect time in their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is currently working on a new comedy series that will bring her back together with some of the individuals who collaborated on her popular TV show, Reba.
