Country music star Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff that was judged by her partner, actor Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple, they didn't show each other any favoritism in the competition.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal connection, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a consolation prize, she received a trophy in the form of a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire showed her sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her unsuccessful cooking competition, which included a moment of her gracefully accepting coming in last place.
The video below captures the entire event, showcasing all the details and even some additional entertaining moments. Notably, country singer Terri Clark participated in the competition and ended up coming in second place.
In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful experience at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of what caused it to go wrong.
"I forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "I added chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would give the dish flavor. It was a recipe from Texas that got me really excited."
Despite being Linn's girlfriend, it didn't help her avoid coming in last place. However, McEntire believes that her relationship with Linn may have lessened the impact when the judges announced the results.
During the competition, Rex, one of the judges, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his regret and informed me that I did not win.
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper inside a toilet. So, I made a joke about it," McEntire added.
Setting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her successful relationship with Linn and how they have known each other for a long time. They first met in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns movie, but they only started to develop romantic feelings for each other when they reconnected in 2020. Before that, McEntire was married to Narvel Blackstock, her husband of many years, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation, McEntire asked Rex why they didn't meet earlier, to which he replied that she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more mellow. She believes they have met at the perfect time in their lives.
Following this, McEntire will be performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in Las Vegas. Additionally, she is working on a new sitcom that will reunite her with some of the people who helped create her popular TV show, Reba.
