Reba McEntire came in last place in a chili cookoff competition that was judged by Rex Linn. Despite being a cute couple in country music, Reba and Rex don't show each other any mercy when it comes to cook-off competitions.
McEntire recently took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff, where Linn served as one of the judges. Despite their personal relationship, McEntire did not receive any special treatment during the judging process.
McEntire actually finished in last place. As a result, she received a humorous trophy as a consolation prize: a chili pepper being flushed down a toilet.
McEntire showed her good sportsmanship by posting a video on social media of her unsuccessful cookoff experience, which included a moment of her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The complete video below captures the entire event, with some additional interesting details included. Country singer Terri Clark also participated and ended up in second place.
McEntire discussed her unsuccessful chili cookoff experience during a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, acknowledging that she has a good understanding of what went awry.
She forgot to add the spices to the dish, but she added chili powder and hatch green chilis instead. She was following a Texas recipe and was really excited about it.
Despite being Linn's girlfriend, her relationship status did not prevent her from ending up in last place. However, McEntire believes that her connection to Linn likely helped soften the disappointment when the judges announced the results.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly informed me. He expressed his apologies and then revealed that I hadn't won the competition."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in a toilet. So, I also made a joke out of it," McEntire added.
Putting jokes aside, McEntire discussed her successful relationship with Linn and how they make it work. They have been acquainted for many years, meeting in 1991 during the filming of The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic connection did not happen until they reconnected in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her longtime husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire expressed curiosity about why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason might have been because she was previously married. McEntire describes Rex as being lively and full of energy, while she has become more relaxed. She believes that they have crossed paths at the perfect moment in their lives.
Following that, McEntire will be traveling to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new television show that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular series, Reba.
