Reba McEntire and her partner Rex Linn participated in a chili cookoff competition, with Reba ending up in last place. Despite being a cute couple in the country music scene, they didn't show any mercy towards each other during the contest.
McEntire took part in a Hillbilly Chili Cookoff where Linn served as a judge, but their friendship did not influence the judging process in any way.
McEntire actually finished in last place. She received a humorous trophy as a prize: a chili pepper going down a toilet.
Always willing to have a good time, McEntire posted a video on social media of her participation in a cookoff where she didn't win, showing her gracefully accepting the last place position.
The video below captures the entire event, including some additional interesting details. Country singer Terri Clark participated and came in second place.
On a recent virtual appearance on CBS Mornings, McEntire discussed her unsuccessful attempt at a chili cookoff and acknowledged that she has a good understanding of where things went awry.
"I accidentally forgot to add any spices," she confesses. "But I ended up adding chili powder and hatch green chilis, thinking it would be enough. I followed a Texas recipe and was really looking forward to how it would turn out."
Even though Linn's relationship with McEntire didn't help her avoid finishing in last place, McEntire believes that being her girlfriend may have softened the blow when the judges announced the results.
"Rex, who was one of the judges, approached me and quietly revealed the news. He expressed his regret and then I asked him if he was going to announce the winner. Rex responded by saying that it was not me."
"Then he gave me the award, which turned out to be a chili pepper in a toilet. So I made a joke about it," McEntire added.
Putting humor aside, McEntire also discussed her connection with Linn and the reasons behind its success. The two have been acquainted for a long time – they first met in 1991 during the filming of the Kenny Rogers movie The Gambler Returns. However, their romantic relationship didn't develop until they reconnected in 2020. During this time, McEntire was married to her husband Narvel Blackstock, with whom she has a son named Shelby.
During a conversation with Rex, McEntire wondered why they hadn't connected sooner. Rex pointed out that one reason could have been her previous marriage. McEntire describes Rex as fun and energetic, while she has become more relaxed. She believes they have crossed paths at the perfect moment.
Following that, McEntire will be going to Las Vegas to perform the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. Additionally, she is working on a new television show that will reunite her with some of the crew from her popular series, Reba.
