6 Haunting Last Performances: Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Daryle Singletary + Others

George Jones was aware that his last concert was approaching. Daryle Singletary, on the other hand, was not, which added to the eerie atmosphere as he performed his final song of the night.

Following Merle Haggard's passing, a story circulated about Toby Keith assisting him in exiting the stage with dignity during his final performance. However, this story turned out to be false as Keith was not present at Haggard's last show. The individual who spread this misinformation also was not in attendance.

In reality, the actor W. Earl Brown was not present at the show where Keith assisted Haggard in finishing. He had only heard about it afterwards.

Associated: 14 Country Music Artists Who Should Be Given More Recognition

Taste of Country found a review of Merle Haggard's last concert and uncovered a poignant moment that deserved as much recognition as the Toby Keith hero story. This moment is one of six final concert memories highlighted in the video above (and in pictures below).

The video features John Denver's final performance, Johnny Cash's last song, and Waylon Jennings' made-for-TV farewell.

Our preferred performance is by Singletary. If you know the song "Old Violin" by Johnny Paycheck, you'll recognize the influence. If not, continue watching for a treat.
