Expanding Horizons: Walmart’s Plans for ‘Large-Format’ Stores and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

  • by

Walmart is expanding its presence by opening new large stores and adding electric vehicle charging stations to some of its current locations.

As per CNBC, the company plans to construct or transform over 150 "large-format" stores throughout the United States in the next five years. The Associated Press noted that Walmart has not opened any new stores within the last three years.

What does a Walmart store with a "large-format" design look like? Walmart has shared press images of its Supercenter design for these planned stores, but has not disclosed which cities they will be located in.

Walmart announced that certain locations will feature the company's "Store of the Future" concept, which includes more displays and QR codes for customers to scan and access more information about products. Before this announcement, Walmart was already in the process of renovating 650 more locations to incorporate this concept.

According to a statement from Walmart's president and CEO John Furner, the company's investments in labor, supplies, and tax revenue amount to millions of dollars and benefit the communities they serve.

CNBC reported that the company chose not to disclose the prices of the stores.

Walmart will be incorporating sustainability into their new stores by designing them with energy-efficient lighting and equipment.

Aside from focusing on sustainability initiatives within its stores, Walmart is also planning on revamping its parking lot. The company announced intentions to install fast-charging stations for electric cars.

Walmart is planning to create a network of fast-charging stations for electric vehicles across the country. This initiative aims to make owning an electric vehicle more convenient and accessible for both Walmart customers and employees, according to Furner.

According to CNBC, Walmart has over 4,600 stores in the United States and has a workforce of almost 1.6 million employees.
