Lady A reflects on their most memorable and challenging moments in the world of country music. Over the course of almost two decades as a band, they have achieved great success, winning numerous awards including CMA, ACM, and Grammy Awards.
The story of how they met is quite common: Hillary Scott saw Charles Kelley at a bar and remembered him from his Myspace profile. This happened in the early 2000s. In a recent episode of Taste of Country Nights, they discussed their journey in the music industry and how quickly they have progressed.
I inquired the group about their most memorable and challenging experiences in the country music industry. Kelley was the first one to share her stories.
"When we had the opportunity to perform at the CMAs for the first time, we sang 'Love Don't Live Here.' It was a moment where I felt like, 'Wow, this is actually happening,' and I don't think I'll ever forget that feeling," he explains.
Scott also had a favorite memory that he cherished.
Her favorite memory is when they were invited to join the Grand Ole Opry.
Dave Haywood supported Scott's response by adding his agreement.
The first time we performed at the Opry was a special moment for us because our families all came to town to support us. It was an emotional experience that left us feeling amazed.
However, it has not always been easy and pleasant. Kelley remembers a specific "bad" day when they were stuck in a situation that could have been one of the most enjoyable days.
"Ugh, it's frustrating to discover that 'Run to You' reached the top spot on the charts while our bus broke down on the side of the road."
Scott recalls a very difficult day when she and her group, along with many others in the country music industry, found out about the passing of producer and co-writer Busbee. She describes it as the most challenging moment they have experienced.
Haywood recalls a difficult moment in his country music career when Kelley inadvertently struck Scott in the mouth with the microphone. This incident, although not directly involving Haywood himself, was still a distressing experience for the group.
Scott shared that his lip was injured by accident. The incident occurred at the San Antonio Rodeo on a rotating stage. Somehow, they ended up colliding, causing Charles Kelley's elbow or wrist to hit the bottom of Scott's microphone, resulting in it hitting his lip.
After that, we started singing "Need You Now," and it felt like a dramatic moment. We were really getting into the performance when he suddenly pointed out that I had blood on my teeth.
The story made all three members of Lady A laugh, suggesting that it may now be a cherished memory. You can listen to the complete interview without any edits by searching for Taste of Country Nights, On Demand on your preferred podcast platform.
