According to a report from Variety, there is a possibility that Tracy Chapman will make a rare public appearance at the 2024 Grammy Awards where she will perform with Luke Combs.
According to insiders, Chapman is set to perform "Fast Car" on stage with Luke Combs. "Fast Car" is a folk-pop hit from the late 1980s that tells the story of a couple trying to break free from poverty. Combs included a cover of the song on his album Gettin' Old in 2023, which propelled "Fast Car" to the top of the country radio charts.
If Chapman decides to perform at the Grammys, it will be unexpected and probably one of the most discussed moments of the evening. Sources say she has only been on camera three times since 2009, when she finished her last tour.
Combs has openly expressed his desire to perform "Fast Car" with the original songwriter and recording artist. After the country cover reached No. 1, his team released a statement saying that there were no current plans for a performance with Chapman, but that he would be thrilled if the opportunity came up.
Even though she has not been very visible in the public eye since the song became popular again, Chapman has made a few statements showing her support for Combs' success with "Fast Car." When the song reached number 1 on the country charts, she expressed her happiness for Combs and gratitude for a new generation of fans enjoying her song.
